Pre-season Friendly Added - Sunday, 4/27 vs. Grand Island at Delaware Park

Paul has set up a friendly pre-season match for the team - from Paul:

Everyone please note we have a friendly set for this Sunday (4/27/08) against Grand Island. We will be playing @ 6pm on our normal field in Delaware Park (barring any unforseen problems). I played with them the last few sessions at Sportsplex and a few of you have played with them (Lazers / Manaderers). Good guys. I am bringing Budd Lights for both teams as well. Please be there as we will be playing and answering some fielding/positioning questions that probably exsist.

Best of luck to both clubs!

“Soccer blogging, haven for hooligans” - BSCer Featured in the University of Buffalo Spectrum

As a fellow UBer, I was shocked when I opened the April 4th edition of the UB Spectrum and saw an article featuring a huge picture my cohort here at the site, our very own Ryan Knapp:

Ryan in the Spectrum

(It’s 4×6 in the printed edition!)

The full article is a good read, titled “Soccer blogging, haven for hooligans”. It can be found here: http://spectrum.buffalo.edu/article.php?id=36293.

Amongst other things, it details Ryan’s involvement with Center Holds It, a site covering most of the different soccer leagues of the world.

Wednesday Pickup At The Park - And Everyone’s Invited

For the last couple years, BSC International has made a habit out of playing pickup soccer each Wednesday around 6 PM in Delaware Park. We gather next to our game field, on the east side of the park by the basketball courts. We encourage anyone who’s interested to show up.

Game play is very informal & frequently includes players of many different nationalities & styles of soccer. Most often the goal is a set of bags. The majority of guys don’t wear shin guards (and that’s not a problem!), but almost everyone wears spikes. We’ve had barefooted players show up, but don’t encourage it. When enough people show up, we break into multiple games.

So if you’re interested, grab your spikes, a dark and light shirt, and head to the park. Your best bet for parking is to enter East Meadow Drive (off Parkside by the Scajaquada) and park as close as you can to Jewett - keep in mind that parking by the basketball courts fills up quick on a nice day!

Please note that other teams use the game field throughout the week & we don’t have a permit to play on it on nights other than our games (even if it’s not being used), so please stay off - the field doesn’t need any more wear & tear anyways!

See you Wednesdays!
