BSC International 2 - Blue Martini 1, BSC Clinches League Championship

This past week concluded the first winter session at Epic Center for BSC International. BSC really couldn’t have asked for a better session - including playoffs, we went 8-0, scoring 38 goals, and only let in 7.

BSC International - Epic 08

This last game ended ended in a 2-1 win for BSC. It should be no surprise to fans who put the two in for BSC - the first goal was scored early on in the game by one of our frequent scorers, Ryan Knapp. Knapp received the ball near the top of the 18 yard box, where he spun with it and shook a Blue Martini defender on his back, leaving himself a short shot to beat the keeper.

While BSC continued to dominate, the lead didn’t last until the end of the game - Blue Martini had a couple good chances before they put one in, including a spectacular attempt at a diving by one of their attackers who (fortunately for BSC) just missed the ball. The goal Blue Martini scored came from a near break away, where BSC defender Jeff Au committed a smart foul and gently knocked down the Blue Martini attacker before he could shoot or cross into the penalty area. Unfortunately, the smart defending ceased for a moment here & Blue Martini toe poked the ball into the back of the net before BSC was able to position themselves for the ensuiing free kick.

BSC’s second goal was one of their prettiest of season - proving this past year’s recruiting payed off as Marc “Spanish” Campillo and Evan Wydro combined for some crisp passing. Spanish knocked the ball to Evan, who moved and fed it right back to Spanish to put in the back of the net. All of their passes took place in tight space, spinning the involved Blue Martini defenders around to look for the ball.

Blue Martini played hard to the end, nearly scoring on a half-break. BSC’s goalie Nick Wydro decided otherwise, tipping the ball enough to hit the goal post and pick it back up off the rebound. Nick deserved the save after the great season he’d had in net.

With the way the schedule fell, this was the first matchup between our two teams. We look forward to another great season & match vs. Blue Martini.

BSC International 5 - Submarine 1

Pretty sure Ryan Knapp scored 1. Also pretty sure Ryan Wolfrom assited on all 6. It was a sweet game. Like my write up? Good me either cause I dont remember anything from that long ago.

BSC International 7 - Greatbatch 1

This past week’s game again saw BSC coming out on top, with a final score of 7-1.

The story of the game was the emergence of “Hat-trick” Patrick Calloccia, who took over Marc ‘Holy shit I know how to score goals now’ Petryk’s role from the first three games, netting three goals in one game. Pat’s first opportunity presented itself early on in the game, when a ball popped up in front of him as he stood in front of the net around the penalty shot dot. With his right side facing the goal, Pat fooled everyone (himself included) by first flailing his left leg in the air (as if he was going to volley the ball), followed with a half fall to the ground & finished with a right footed twitch - sending the ball off his shin, past the defender and magically making it hop it’s way through the legs of the goalkeeper, much to the surprise of all - simply no one was expecting this (poor) level of play.

Pat took a good ribbing for the first goal, but shortly thereafter Paul Welker knocked a ball across the 6 yard line & Pat cleanly pushed it into the back of the net.

Goal three came off a throw-in from Hector “Poncho” Garrido, who lobbed it past the left attacker, where it was picked up by an attacking defender Mark Valites at the corner of the 18 and half volleyed into the far lower corner of the net, for his third goal in as many games.

The fourth BSC goal again went to Pat, who completed his hat trick - quite possibly Pat’s best showing during all of his tenure with BSC.

The remaining BSC goals were scored by Marc “Spanish” Campillo (who leads the team in goals scored this session) and Paul Welker, with an absolute missle that skimmed the crossbar on it’s way to the back of the net. We again had a mystery scorer who put in the 7th goal. (Hopefully someone will be able to identify the scorer - keep checking the comments below.)

The only Greatbatch goal of the game came as BSC was mucking around on defense - Greatbatch started down their right wing, beating a BSC defender (ok, maybe two or three…) and played the ball onto the top of 18, where an attacker of theirs ripped a shot on goal. BSC goalie Nick Wydro deserves credit for somehow managing to block the initial shot, but Greatbatch was able to tap the rebound in before any of BSC could clear the ball.

The next game matches BSC against our Epic Center soccer rivalry - Submarine. Fans can expect a physical, skilled match by both clubs.

BSC International 15 - Them 1 (Last Two Games)

What can I really say about the last two BSC games?  Um..we’ve pretty much dominated who ever we have played.

First game of the season, we played Kaylia’a Killers in a hard-fought 9-1 victory.  BSC Dominated the game from start to finish, with the highlights of the game consisting of some 5′5 nothing guy on the other team calling me four-eyes, to an emergencof one Marc ‘Holy shit I know how to score goals now’ Petryk.  Apparently someone was practicing during this off-season.  I don’t even remember who scored all of the goals.

Last night’s game saw BSC take on Brennans, who are just really in the league to have a good time.  BSC started off slow, only netting one goal in the first 10 minutes, but soon after the floodgates opened and we came away with a 6-0 victory.

Goals by

Marc Campillo (2)

Mark Valites (1)

Jeff Au (1)

Nick Wydro (1)

He who I can´t remember (1)

Next game is at 7:00pm, Next Tuesday against Greatbatch, who were housed 8-0 last week by Blue Martini (the team in Black). This should be fun.

Ryan Knapp–2008 Golden Box Winner

The 2008 season saw the introduction of the Golden Box award for the most goals scored in a season.  The Summer 2008 winner is Ryan Knapp, who netted 7 goals during this campaign.

Check out the Golden Box page where you can read all about this legendary trophy’s history and see how you fared in the running.

BSC International 4 - Clarence 1

After receiving a thrashing from some of the BSC Ultra supporters during the post game festivities (minus some risque pictures from one Fox Salehi, I will now finally update the site, yay.

Anyway, BSC International come out on top 4-1 against Clarence at Clarence town park.

The first half was dominated by BSC, who maintained the lions share of possession and opportunities on goal as well.  Mike Farrell, Marc ‘Spanish’ Campillo and Ryan Knapp all had chances on goal, but could not find the mark.

Three minutes into the game, BSC keeper Frank Callocchia was beaten by a Clarence forward and what looked like a sure goal was cleared off the line by Pat ‘I’m the best looking’ Callocchia.  In a post game interview, Pat confirmed that ‘Clearing the ball off of the line is like scoring a goal.’  So yes Pat, you did score.

The defense for BSC was rock solid in the first half, not yielding a single clear goal scoring opportunity to Clarence.

The second half was a different story as Marc Campillo opened the scoring thanks to a great through ball from Mike Farrell, which allowed the recently signed Campillo to beat the keeper to the far post.  1-0 BSC.

BSC kept the scoring rhythm as this time, Mike Farrell scored a goal of his own.  Ryan Wolfrom played a fantastic ball into space for Ryan Knapp, who beat the keeper and passed in front to a wide open Farrell who calmly placed it into the back of the net.

After several minutes of Clarence pressure, they finally got on the scoreboard as a pass played into the 6 yard box fell onto the feet of a Clarence striker, who placed it into a wide open net.

As the tempo of the game seemed to be changing, BSC did not falter, and Farrell scored his second goal of the night after another fantastic pass from Ryan Wolfrom sprung Farrell in the box, who hit a volley far post past the Clarence keeper.

Ryan Knapp would end the BSC scoring on the night as Wolfrom again played Knapp into the box and Knapp slotted the ball past the Clarence keeper, who appeared to jump out of the way of the screaming blast.

The game ended 4-1 and BSC ended the season on a three game winning streak.

My personal man of the match was Ryan Wolfrom, not for any of his phenominal passes on the night, but for the absolute worst set of passes known to man where he failed not once, but twice, to pass the ball to a wide open BSC player, only to his the Clarence defender in the face.  Well done Ryan.

Tehel Cup: BSC International 2-Queenston FC 3

Some games just leave everyone with a bitter taste in their mouth, and this was no exception.

BSC International squared off on Wednesday night at Fort Niagara against Queenston FC, who they firmly beat 3-0 last Sunday at Delaware Park.

Leading up to the game, phone calls were being made throughout to find the whereabouts of all the BSC International players. Soon before kickoff it was determined that a car with 5 players was stuck on the Grand Island Bridge thanks to traffic from a stalled out car (rumor has it the car belonged to a Paul Welker, but that is not confirmed).

As the rest of the BSC Inter crew arrived, it was evident they were going to start with only 8 players, and with our fourth string keeper in net. Pleas to the referee went unheeded as the whistle blew and the game was sent underway.

BSC came out and defended admirably with only 7 field players, playing in the much defensive 4-2.5-.5 as Queenston attacked early and often. BSC International actually had 2 quality opportunities on goal, as Marc ‘Spanish’ Campillo couldn’t convert on a 30 yard shot which was horribly mishandled by the Queenston keeper and Ryan Knapp took a chance from 18 yards and harmlessly shot the ball into the keeper’s hands.

Queenston opened the scoring early in the first half with a goal as their forward walked in after several short passes and beat Deeniho to the left side. Soon after, Queenston tallied their second goal as their forward zig-zagged his way through a tired BSC midfield and defense and slotted the ball into the side of the net.

25 minutes into the half, the troops arrived and BSC were set to full strength. The game took a large turn as BSC controlled the midfield and pressured the Queenston defense, who looked shaky at best. Ken Gibson had a spectacular header going into the net saved by the Queenston keeper at the last second.

However, Queenston scored their third goal of the half on a swift counterattack just before halftime.

The second half was all BSC International, as they came out and attacked with everything they had. The Queenston goal was peppered with shots from all angles and finally the hardwork paid off as Ryan Knapp tallied his 2nd goal of the season. A corner kick was sent into the box from Joao Moreira and flicked on to Knapp from Pat Callocchia. The ball fell to Knapp’s feet and was put into the side netting.

BSC continued the pressure, with Ryan Wolfrom leading the attack out of the midfield. His strong play at center midfield enabled the outside wingers to pressure and gave the forwards plenty of opportunities to create chances upfront.

Knapp would soon score his second goal of the evening after the Queenston left back mishit a ball which fell to Knapp’s feet outside of the 18 yard box. Knapp fought past the defender and put the ball to the shortside of the net, making the game 3-2 with over 20 minutes still to play.

The rest of the game was a flurry of BSC opportunities as everyone pushed up looking for the third goal. Ryan Wolfrom struck a diving header just wide of the Queenston net after a pin-point cross from Hector Garrido, who had a great game for BSC on the night.

Nick Wydro, arriving just at the beginning of the Second Half in team approved shirt and tie, played brilliantly, stopping 2 Queenston breakaways to keep a clean sheet in the second. Pat Callocchia also contributed to the cause, sliding in and stopping what looked to be a sure Queenston goal.

The game was slowed down by a pitch that would have been fit for an African jungle had it been on the right continent. Strong play was shown by both sides and had BSC came with the full 11 at the start of 90 minutes, it was clear who would have been the victor.

BSC International are still 1-0-1 on the season in the league, and are winless in their last 3 Tehel Cup matchups, dating back to 2006.

BSC Intl. 1 - Lackawanna Yemen 1

I was quite surprised when I checked my email yesterday to find that our home opening game against Lancaster United was changed to be against Lackawanna Yemen. The previous meeting between the two clubs at Yemen’s home field resulted in a loss for BSC.

The weather for today’s game greeted the players with temperatures in the low 50s and a consistent wind out of the west. The rain we saw throughout the weekend ceased for the day, but players still shivered throughout the game nonetheless.

Today’s first half was slightly dominated by Yemen who, 3/4 of the way in, took a 1-0 lead off a ~30 yard shot from straight on. The ball dropped around the 6 yard box & after hitting the dirt took a typical unpredictable Delaware Main bounce, proving too difficult for our keeper to handle & unfortunately ending up in the back of the net. The goal was fitting for the field & our club had nothing to complain about. Immediately after the goal went in, a Yemen player was issued a caution for his extremely ambitious celebration, where he taunted many of the BSC players.

Highlights for BSC in the first half included a off footed lob of a shot from Marc Petryk and a goal line save from keeper Frank Callocchia.

The second half was a little more even, yet saw no goals until around 15 minutes remaining, when BSC attacker Ryan Knapp bumped into a Yemen defender around the corner of the 18 yard box,  turned with the ball and buryied it in the far side of the net.

BSC showed a resurgence after the goal. Our main stopper Ken Gibson nearly put the club ahead with an authoritative header with only a couple minutes left, but was robbed by a beautiful save from the Yemen keeper. Afterwards, play continued evenly until the end of the match, resulting a 1-1 tie.

Overall, the game was cleaner than many may have expected. The whistle was blown appropriately and fouls seemed to even out for both sides. The officiating was well done and both teams walked away content. My favorite comment of the game came from a Yemen player, who I overheard saying “1-1 is a fair result” - I agree.

Best luck to Yemen throughout the rest of the year!

Knapp on Queen City F.C.

Apparently finding an article in the UB Spectrum earlier this month on BSC’s Ryan Knapp
wasn’t enough - today as I made my way through one of my favorite local sites, Buffalo Rising, I stumbled upon yet another article mentioning him: News About The Queen City Football Club.

The article is an interview with Ryan in his role as “head of public relations for the QCFC“, promoting the recently established NPSL soccer team and the beginning of their upcoming season at their new home field, All-High Stadium. Ryan’s been talking about the stadium for a couple weeks now - he tells us the pitch is beautiful and the seating is even covered on one side.

Tickets for the season look to be extremely affordable & odds are good you’ll run into some BSC players at the games - we hope to see you there too!

Pre-season Friendly Added - Sunday, 4/27 vs. Grand Island at Delaware Park

Paul has set up a friendly pre-season match for the team - from Paul:

Everyone please note we have a friendly set for this Sunday (4/27/08) against Grand Island. We will be playing @ 6pm on our normal field in Delaware Park (barring any unforseen problems). I played with them the last few sessions at Sportsplex and a few of you have played with them (Lazers / Manaderers). Good guys. I am bringing Budd Lights for both teams as well. Please be there as we will be playing and answering some fielding/positioning questions that probably exsist.

Best of luck to both clubs!
